Highlights from the RegMed XB 4th Annual Conference 2026
The 4th Annual Conference on Regenerative Medicine, hosted by RegMed XB, brought together professionals from across the regenerative medicine ecosystem. Held on June 10th and 11th at Leeuwenbergh in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
The event welcomed professionals across the full spectrum of regenerative medicine, from innovative start-ups, researchers, and industry experts to government representatives, health foundations, and visionaries in the field.
Collaborate to Regenerate
This year's theme, Collaborate to Regenerate, united leaders, innovators, and professionals to exchange ideas, explore trends, and drive progress in regenerative medicine. Utrecht, at the heart of Dutch life sciences, provided an inspiring backdrop for the event.
Once again, the Conversation Starter tool facilitated targeted one-on-one meetings between participants, reflecting the community's continued enthusiasm for meaningful connections and collaboration.
Advancing Regenerative Medicine: From Discovery to Patient
This two-day event was built around four central themes: Collaboration, Moonshots, Regulation, and Valorization.
A major highlight was the showcasing of RegMed XB's Moonshots: Diabetes, Osteoarthritis, Eye, Kidney, and Cardiovascular, each presented in direct connection with the RegMed XB Pilot Factory pilot lines that support their translation. ReGEN Biomedical, ICAT – Innovation Center for Advanced Therapies, NecstGen-LUMC, and Smart BioMaterials Center (SBMC) each presented how their Pilot Factory infrastructure actively enables the Moonshot programs to move from research towards the clinic.
The conference opened with a timely look at the European regulatory landscape, with Lydia Shotton of the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine discussing the Biotech Act and what it means for ATMP development. A fireside chat on funding gaps in ATMP translation brought together voices from Health Holland, RegMed XB Flanders, and the Dutch Kidney Foundation to address where current instruments fall short.
Keynote speaker Prof. Daniël Saris of the Mayo Clinic provided both a clinical perspective on regenerative medicine and, on day two, a deeply human conversation with a patient on surviving disease and rebuilding knees, a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
Day two further explored market access and reimbursement challenges, gene therapy translation, and a dedicated industry session: Mind the Gap: Where Science Meets the Market, in which five speakers from NTrans Technologies, Medace, UGent/4Tissue, Comate Engineering & Design, and Scinus Cell Expansion shared hard-won insights on the journey from lab to clinic to commercial reality.
The conference also featured perspectives from international ecosystem partners, with speakers from the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité and Inserm (France) contributing to a broader European conversation on making collaboration work in ATMP translation.
We extend our sincerest gratitude to all participants, speakers, and contributors for making this event a success. A special thank you to our exhibitors: ACROBiosystems · ATMP XB · Bio-Techne · CCRM Nordic · Fluidnatek · ICAT – Innovation Center for Advanced Therapies · Medace BV · Miltenyi Biotec · MIMETAS · NecstGen · NTrans Technologies BV · ReGEN Biomedical · Scinus Cell Expansion B.V. · Smart BioMaterials Center (SBMC).
