Updated SRGO Scheme Now Open: €10 Million Available for Regenerative Medicine Projects

− 2 min read

RegMed XB is pleased to share important news for SMEs and academic partners active in regenerative medicine.

The Dutch government has officially updated and reopened the SRGO (Subsidy Scheme for Regenerative Medicine Research Projects). The amended regulation was published in the Staatscourant on 21 November 2025, and the new tender is now open.

Application period

  • 24 November 2025 – 17 February 2026 (17:00)
  • Total available budget: €10 million

The SRGO supports collaborative research projects between SMEs and academic institutions aimed at developing products or services in the field of regenerative medicine.

Highlights of this new call

1. Eased SME requirements

SMEs no longer need to demonstrate prior clinical development or a market-ready product to be eligible. Track-record and risk profile of the SME now only plays a role in ranking, not in basic eligibility, making the scheme accessible to more innovators.

2. More flexible funding distribution

The financial allocation within projects has been adjusted to support stronger academic participation:

  • At least 50% of the total subsidy will be provided as a loan to the medical supplier (previously 60%).
  • Up to 50% may be awarded as a grant to the academic partner (previously 40%).

This allows for a more balanced contribution of both partners and strengthens the role of scientific institutions in regenerative medicine innovation.

3. Improved handling of the one-time loan fee

The 15% one-time interest payment for the loan will now only become due at the end of the calendar year in which the subsidy is formally established—rather than at the signing of the loan agreement. This significantly reduces administrative and accounting burdens for applicants.

4. Option to apply under the De Minimis Regulation

SMEs who may not meet strict financial criteria can now choose to apply under the EU De Minimis Regulation, offering more flexibility within European state-aid rules.

Encouragement to apply

With these changes, the SRGO has become more accessible and more attractive for a broader range of SMEs and research institutions. We encourage those who are developing regenerative medicine technologies to explore this opportunity.
