Research Technician
Leiden, Netherlands
As a research technician at the Leiden hiPSC Centre of LUMC, you'll be responsible for generating and genetically modifying human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) for researchers within and outside LUMC. You'll work closely with the senior researcher to produce and characterize genetically modified cell lines, utilizing advanced techniques such as molecular cloning, PCR analysis, immunofluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry. Additionally, you'll contribute to maintaining the stem cell database, differentiating hiPSCs into specific somatic cell types, and writing and optimizing protocols. You'll also have the opportunity to play a supporting role in the practical courses on "stem cells" and "gene-editing" organized once or twice a year, helping with material preparation and assisting in the lab. Your top 3 tasks are:
- Producing and characterizing genetically modified hiPSC lines, including isogenic controls, knockouts, and reporters
- Isolating, culturing, and reprogramming primary cells into hiPSCs, and expanding and managing hiPSC stocks
- Performing various analyses, including (dd)PCR, immunofluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry
About the workplace
The Leiden hiPSC Centre, established in 2011 as part of LUMC, is a leading facility for generating, characterizing, and genetically modifying human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). Located in the Mirai House at the Leiden Bio Science Park, the center is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW) and provides comprehensive services to researchers both domestically and internationally.
Working at the Leiden hiPSC Centre offers a dynamic and international environment where you'll collaborate with a motivated team of researchers. You'll have access to cutting-edge technologies and contribute to groundbreaking research and education, making your work both challenging and socially relevant.
